Studio Ethos

Jose Bergua Studio is a young practice that works in different fields of architecture, spanning from public to private projects with special focus and interest on housing and making spaces that feel like home.
The studio is dedicated to creating projects that are rooted in their contexts and are respectful with the existing conditions. Each project starts with a rigorous analysis of the site to unlock the hidden potentials of the place and enhance its inherent qualities, with the final aim of making responsible and appropriate interventions.
The combination of an imaginative design process and a collaborative relation with the client is the base for the studio work and the way to provide specific and unique responses to each project and brief. Hand sketches, architectural drawings, images and physical models are the tools used to test and illustrate the qualities of the design, from volumetry to space, proportion and material.
Architecture is approached with dedication, passion and sensitivity as ways to create projects that are characterful in their form, volumetry and spatial characteristics as well as coherent and thorough in their organization, construction methodology and materiality.
In a moment of climate emergency, sustainability must be built into design processes. The studio aims to design projects that are durable and adaptable. Buildings are conceived considering ideas of circularity and economy of means, making sure they can be re-purposed, re-configured or even dismantled, as ways of extending their lifespan.
Team work is a key aspect of the studio and a way of developing enriching relationships with colleagues and other offices. Working in prestigious architecture practices and collaborating with architects on projects in the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain have been an important source of ideas, knowledge and references to the work of Jose Bergua Studio.
